"Socrate" - Eric Satie |

| The composer Eric Satie (1866-1925) named his chamber opera "Socrate" a "Symphonic Drama". Satie himself created the libretto from three dialogues of the Greek philosopher Platon about Socrates. The first part is a portrait of Socrates (the beginning is seen here performed by the singer Ursulas Kondraf-Hofrichter and Aries Caces on the piano). In the second part Socrates and Phaidros are walking at the river Illisos. The third part tells the story of the death of Socrates. For the development of new music the musical works of Satie were very important. | ||||
