“Woyzeck”
"Woyzeck" Fragments of a drama by Georg Büchner for the stage adapted by Dževad Karahasan The poet Georg Büchner (1813-1837) wrote a fragment of a drama about the story of „Woyzeck“. The historical character of Christian Woyzeck made history, because he murdered his wife maybe without any reason. The records of the court about “Woyzeck” are the focus of the drama. The poet Dževad Karahasan from Bosnia has made his own version from the fragments. In the center of dramatisation of Karahasan is the “Corrosion of Character”. About that conflict Karahasan says: “Woyzeck has a lot part-time jobworks. That does not work, because Woyzeck as a human being has not the eternal power to survive in all these jobs.” The German poet Friedrich Schiller wrote in the beginning of his theatrical essay The Stage As A Moral Institution”:„The jurisdiction of the stage begins, where the world of the laws of the society ends. If justice could be bought by gold and moral desasters could encrease, if the crime of power would mock to powerless and the anxiety of people would reduce the respect of the arm of the law, if justice would be neglected, then the world of phantasy and history in past and present time must be present of stage”. These words are the keywords for the interpretation of “Woyzeck” by ARBOS. On this video-clip Ramesh Meyyappan is performing the character of Woyzeck in the scene at the pond.
