"The Ear Witness"
"The Ear Witness" is a theatre performance about 50 characters written down by Elias Canetti (1905-1994 / Nobel Prize for Literature 1981). The adaption for the stage is done be ACCUS Theatre and ARBOS-Company for Music and Theatre. The two actors Werner Mössler (deaf) and Alexander Mitterer are showing in around 70 minutes 49 different characters on the stage. They are supported by the musician Harald Haslinger and the musician and actor Dietmar Jäger. The music is from the Austrian composer Herbert Lauermann. The 50 characters have names like: “The Female King´s Herald … The Name Licker … The Plan Presenter … The Gift Himself … The Mentioner To Somebody … The Tears Warmer … The Blind … The Up Faller … The Female Odourless … The Female Have and Good … The Body Creeper … The Beauty Salamander … The Nymphomanian … The Damage Fresh … The Female Guilty … The Fault Speaker … The Female Tablecloth Wild … The Female Early Word … The Female Innocent Syllable … The Ear Witness … The Fame Auditor … The Looser … The Female Bitter Winder … The Lord Living … The Female Moon Cousin … The Home Biter … The Bequeathed … The Spite Catcher … The Female Defective … The Female Archaeocrat … The Female Horse Black … The Paper Drinker … The Temptress … The Female Tired One … The Displacer … The Female Humiliater … The Harem Inhabitant … The Flowered … The God Presenter … The Granitic Nurse … The Class Explorer … The Female Star clearer … The Heroplucker … The Maestroso … The Female Dropped … The Male Nymphomaniac … The Grief Governor … The Female Invention … The Never Must”. These grotesque descriptions characterize exactly our way of life. Canetti explains his fifty characters as acoustic masques coming from his identity of everyone´s mother language. The behaviour of the 50 characters is coming from their language (but language is here not only defined as the spoken language. It is characterised as a language, which comes from the whole behaviour on everyone´s body. The language of the body is equal to the language, which is used for communication). So the title of this collection of 50 characters will be clear. Directed by: Herbert Gantschacher Costumes and stage designed by: Sanzaba Dimna Light designed by: Bidpai
