"The Lay of Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke" –
Praha Veletrzni Palac...
    This videoclip is a special documentary about a performance of the musical piece "The Lay of Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke" by the Austrian composer Viktor Ullmann. This piece of Ullmann exists in two versions, one for piano and one for orchestra to see and hear on this videoclip (performed by Rupert Bergmann and the orchestra of the ensemble kreativ conducted by David Curry). The place of the performance is the "Veletrzni" Palace of Prague. That place was used during the the Nazi-dictatorship for the deportation of the Jews from Prague to the concentration-camps. Also Ullmann was was sent from here to the concentration-camp of Theresienstadt / Terezìn. There he was imprisoned from 1942 to 1944. There he composed a lot of music for the "Freizeitgestaltung". Among that compositions are "Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke/The Lay of Love and Death of the Cornet Christoph Rilke" written in 1944. Viktor Ullmann was a composer who served as a soldier in World War I. Near the castle of Duino he served an observer in 1918, there in this castle Rilke lived and worked a few years before. In a lot of his musical work composed in Theresienstadt Ullmann used his experience of World War I, the best example for that is his opera "The Emperor of Atlantis or The Disobey of Death". Ullmann was murdered in 1944 at Auschwitz.
